HIV-Checkpoint in Copenhagen, Odense and Aarhus
- For ethnic minorities living in Denmark
Checkpoint Copenhagen, Odense and Aarhus offers HIV-testing and counseling within an hour for all with another ethnic background than Danish. It is free of charge to be tested and counseled and it is of course anonymous. All Checkpoints are centrally located and test and counseling is carried out by professional staff in a friendly environment. Counseling can take place both in Danish and English. In addition, in Copenhagen conseling in Turkish, French and Portuguese is provided and in Odense counseling in French.
The HIV-testing is specifically for people with another ethnic background than Danish, because within this group we see a tendency of people discovering their HIV-infection at a late point where they are in need of treatment which means that they are in risk of getting sick.
Fortunately today the treatment is able to halt disease progression so most people with HIV can expect to live a long and good life. But in order to get the optimal benefit of the treatment, it is important to start the medication at the right time. Therefore it is important to know ones HIV-status before treatment is needed.
