AIDS&Mobility

AIDS&Mobility is a project partly sponsered by the EU and is being carried out in six european countries. The main purpose of the project is in each participating country to train a group of 20-25 migrants into becoming transcultural health mediators able to teach young migrants different health related subjects.

In spring 2009 Cross-Over started recruiting people for the project and the group of participants ended up consiting of 21 men and women with altogether nine different cultural backgrounds.

The course that the participants are to complete is devided in two parts; one focussing on the training of the mediators, the other focussing on the mediators' teaching of young migrants. While the first part has been completed already, the second part is still ongoing.

The training of the mediators was carried out in the fall 2009 and included training in HIV/AIDS, other sexually transmitted diseases, unwanted pregnancies, harm reduction, hepatitis, the Danish health care system and communication strategies. In all 50 hours of training was performed by some of the most competent people within the respective fields in Denmark.

The other part of the course is still in process, the purpose of it being that the health mediators each organize and facilitate two sessions where young migrants recieve training in HIV and AIDS and one of the other subjects taught at the course.

At the moment, the mediators are in the process of planning and preparing their teaching sessions which should be finished by fall 2010. When all mediators have concluded their teaching, they will recieve a diploma for completing the course.
