We have talked a lot about social stigma, now it is time to discuss about psychological stigma that can result in shame or self-disgust that may permeate ones entire identity. What could be reasons behind the scene of psychological stigma among HIV-infected and affected people? Come and hear this session on sharing experience from Nepal.

6.4.2011 "Merging the HIV-organisations" From 2012 The National Board of Health, Sundhedsstyrelsen, will only support one HIV-organisation. Because of that AIDS-Linien, Stop Aids, HIV-Danmark and Cross-Over/AIDS-Fondet are at present in a process of merging together, probably in one location, and as one organisation. This does not mean closing anyone down but to save on administration and add that money to services. A consultant has been employed to discuss with all of us as to how best to do that and have a plan for this merging by July 2011. So how do we as Cross-Over secure that we still can offer the same and better services in the future? How can we make sure that the spirit of 'Cross-Over' continues? Henriette Laursen, the Director of AIDS-Fondet, will lead the discussion during this special session of our Educational Afternoon.

2.3.2011 "Health Issues Faced by Illegal immigrant Women" A growing number of women end up as illegal immigrants in Denmark or trafficed. Women in this situation have no access to health services through the system. Fortunately, there is some help out there, through a number of organizations and networks. Camilla Tved from Kirkeasyl and Malene Muushold from Reden International will speak about their experience serving some of these women’s health needs.

2.2.2011 "What ever happened to humanitarian asylum?" Cross-Over, which works with people with other ethnic background than Danish, has been experiencing more and more often the harsh realities of asylum seekers who, for health reasons, are applying to stay in Denmark on humanitarian grounds. However, in spite of doctors’ recommendations, people in this situation are being sent out of the country. Attorney Poul Roepstorff, who also works on a volunteer basis, will come and talk about his experiences so far with such cases.

12.1.2011  "Why are so many people getting tested for HIV too late?" Between 33 and 50 % of all people testing positive for HIV are being tested so late that they are immediately starting treatment – and would have been offered treatment at an earlier point if they had know that they were HIV-infected. And people living with HIV – who don’t get treatment at the right time – have an increased risk of getting more sick and getting more often sick – and also a higher risk of dying earlier. And besides this, the risk of infecting other people is also higher if people living with HIV don’t get treatment. And further it is more expensive for society to treat HIV-infected people when they are being tested too late. But why don’t people go for HIV-testing at an earlier stage? Hiv-Danmark (the organization for people living with HIV) has made research into the reasons why so many people wait too long before being tested. The results from this research will be presented – with a special focus on immigrants and people from ethnic minorities by Anders Dahl, HIV-Denmark.
